What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is the word used to describe a state in which a person's mind remains calm, concentrated and aware while their body becomes completely relaxed.
People under hypnosis experience a tremendous sense of well-being and peace of mind, often even the euphoria of bliss. In this state, the mind is more receptive to positive suggestions and it is possible to access areas of the mind that are beyond the normal level of conscious awareness.
In hypnotherapy we use the term 'subconscious' to describe these areas of the mind. The subconscious mind keeps a record of all our memories and experiences as well as taking care of all the automatic functions of the body and mind, including the autonomic nervous system.
Anyone who wants to experience hypnosis and is willing and able to follow some simple instructions will go into a state of hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic work carried out by a therapist, a hypnotherapist, whilst the client is in hypnotised state.
Advanced Structured Hypnotherapy involves gaining direct access to the subconscious mind. This requires advanced training and is far more taxing to the therapist than suggestion hypnosis alone.
